Newsletter 6 - Silence
To learn a language is to have one more window from which to look at the world.
学一门语言,就是多一个观察世界的窗户
― Chinese proverb
In today'sworld silence is a privilege. It's not easy to find silence. Even in the middle of nowhere you might have the buzz of high voltage powerline or the swishing sound of wind turbines.

And yet…a lot of research proves again and again that our brain thrives in silence:
-
silence helps new brain cells grow in the hippocampus
-
silence helps to transfer information from short term memory to long term memory
-
silence fosters those amazing moment of insights (aha moments)
-
silence lets your brain recharge and rewire
-
and the list goes on.
From the moment we wake up until we go to bed, we can go days on end without a moment of silence and not even realize it.
So today, gift yourself with 5 minutes of silence.
And if you're a language learner, take a few moments of silence right after you've learned something, let it all sink in.
